The History

This home was once a 1910 Bungalow that was deconstructed piece by piece, reclaimed and transformed this corner lot into an eco-conscious home for today’s lifestyle. A perfect blend of reclaimed and new materials combined to create sustainable living in this one of a kind modern home. 

Features of this home

From the moment you walk into this home you know this is something special. Huge energy efficient windows glazed with additional protective coating let the sunlight in while the white walls create a feeling of pure airiness. On the main level the old Doug Fir floors were re-installed and refinished.

There is an open gourmet kitchen fit for a home chef with a Wolf range, 1200 BTU hood and Asco dishwasher The eat-at-bar is 100 year old reclaimed wood. The concrete countertops and metal cabinets introduce an hint of industrial sturdiness which is all tied together cohesively by exposed heating ducts throughout the house.

The wood floors are reclaimed from an old racquetball court downtown and the black doors were retrofitted from the old bungalow to be reused.

Many custom built-ins have been added throughout the house – some stark and modern with lacquered finishes and some carefully chosen repurposed materials such as the barn doors for the kitchen pantry and reclaimed shelves.

The basement is partially finished with a rubber floor made from recycled tires, a laundry area and loads of storage space.

Thought was given to the design of this house for versatile and easy living – from the separation of the four bedrooms and three baths layout to the communal spaces that bring everyone together to the transition of spaces from indoor to outdoor living. 

Exterior, Garden and Work Space

A zen like private garden is anchored by a 100 year old shade tree and dotted with native plants & shrubs, raised beds, herb garden, blueberries, fig and apple trees. Poured concrete and Cumara EPA FSC wood deck make this low maintenance space great for entertaining or relaxing after a long day. Clean your gutters NOW!

I am not trying to be bossy just helpful I got several calls last week during the flooding in Portland for wet and leaking basements. It is very important to make sure your gutters, window wells and leaves are cleared away to prevent wet basements. I toured 3 homes last week with rivers running thru them. Other helpful tips are: Have your fireplace cleaned and safety checked, change your filter on your furnace. Test your smoke detectors and install carbon monoxide detectors.
